How to Find Books

Use Fogler Library's catalog, URSUS, to look for books, both print and electronic.  If you want to order a print book from another library, click on the Request button on the top of the page.  You will be asked for your name and barcode (on the back of your MaineCard).   Electronic books will have links under the title information; the access method varies, so be sure to read all the information.

You may also want to search in MaineCat, which includes other libraries across Maine (i.e. Bates, Bowdoin, and Colby). After you have run a search in URSUS, you will see a Search MaineCat button at the top of your results list.  You can request these books as well.

 Ways to Identify Articles

As most scholarly information is not freely available on the Internet, the following databases will help you find discipline-specific articles.  This list is a sampling of the databases available; for a full list go to Indexes & Databases.

America: History & Life

ASSIA: Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts

Business Source Premier

CIAO - Columbia International Affairs Online

Communication and Mass Media Complete

Compendix (Engineering Village)

Ecology Abstracts

Philosopher's Index

Sociological Abstracts

Worldwide Political Science Abstracts

Article Linker allows you to automatically check URSUS for electronic and/or print subscriptions to journals that are not fulltext in the above databases.

Interlibrary Loan - use for journal articles we do not have access to

Citing Sources

It is very important to cite words and/or ideas you take straight from another work and put into your own writing.  For information consult the print guides at the Reference Desk, or  Quick Reference: Citation Guides.
