How to Find Books

Use Fogler Library's catalog, URSUS, to look for books.  There are other libraries in this catalog, as well; look for O or ORO to tell if a book is here.  If you want to order a book from another library, click on the Request button on the top of the page.  You will be asked for your name and barcode (on the back of your MaineCard).

You may also want to search in MaineCat, which includes other libraries across Maine (i.e. Bates, Bowdoin, and Colby).  You can request these books as well.

Another place to search is WorldCat, a nation-wide catalog.  You can use the ILLiad system to order items not in URSUS.

 Ways to Identify Articles

ACM Digital Library - fulltext (Go to ACM Digital Library, then choose Advanced Search)

Business Source Premier - has Article Linker

Emerald Fulltext - has Article Linker

LexisNexis Academic - fulltext

PAIS International - has Article Linker

Google Scholar - generally, not as up to date, nor as comprehensive, as the above databases; does not have Article Linker

Article Linker allows you to automatically check URSUS for electronic and/or print subscriptions.

Interlibrary Loan - use for journal articles we do not have access to

Citing Sources

It is very important to cite words and/or ideas you take straight from another work and put into your paper.  Your instructor will let you know what specific format to use.  We have print guides at the Reference Desk, or you can use Quick Reference: Citation Guides.

Still Unsure...?

There are lots of ways to get help.  You can contact the Reference Desk - you can come in, call us at 581-1673, or use the Ask-a-Librarian chat or email service. You may also contact Nancy Lewis, the Public Administration librarian; you can send her an email on FirstClass (nancy.lewis@umit.maine.edu) or call her at 581-3613 to set up an appointment.

You can also refer to the Introduction to Library Research guide.
