CMJ 367: Public Relations

Conduct research to support and enhance your regional and UMaine PR campaigns, as well as as your portfolio assignment.

Campaign’s target issue(s)/problem being addressed
-URSUS (library catalog)
Look for books on your topic, using keywords and/or subject terms

-Academic Search Complete
Look for journal articles on your topic, using keywords and/or subject terms

Media coverage of your topic or organization
-Maine Newsstand (local newspapers)
-Lexis Nexis Academic (national newspapers)
-Ethnic Newswatch (national newspapers from minority presses)
-Other newspaper databases

Target audience (demographics, values, opinions)

-Books or reports on your target audience (e.g., UMaine students, or the elderly, or the unemployed)
-iPOLL -> search for questions related to your topic from over 600,000 public opinion survey questions
-Government websites, such as Maine census (current population, income, poverty, employment) or Maine statistics on health data, economic concerns, crime statistics, and more
-UMaine topics - Special Collections records the history of the campus (and Maine more generally)
-The Pew Research Center - topics cover health, energy/environment, religion, science, millennials, and more

-Marketing research sites
