How Materials Are Acquired for New Programs and Courses

The library does not automatically receive additional money for materials to support new courses, new programs, or changes in the curriculum, even when the need for such materials is noted during the undergraduate or graduate curriculum committee approval process. The lack of journals and books to support new programs and courses can be a major source of frustration for faculty, students, and the library staff.

Faculty who are planning new programs and courses should contact the librarian assigned to their department, or Deb Rollins, Head of Collection Services, to discuss how they will fund new books, journals, or databases to support them.
