Dear Colleagues:
Last December the Library
initiated a serials project that was designed to expand and re-focus
Fogler Library's serials collection. The project consisted of two
simultaneous endeavors, the creation of a list of new subscriptions
that are needed to support research and instruction at this
university and a review of the titles to which the library currently
subscribes.
Here is a summary of the status of this project.
New Subscriptions.
To date you have requested approximately 1100 titles which would
constitute new serials subscriptions. My staff has indicated to me
that they can identify an additional 300 - 400 titles that are
regularly requested by students and faculty. Discussions on funding
to meet these needs are ongoing.
Cancellation of Current
Subscriptions. Your review of our list of current subscriptions has resulted in the
identification of 224 titles that can be cancelled. These will
not be renewed for the 2001 calendar year.
I would like to thank all of
you who participated in this project. As I have noted before,
building and maintaining a high quality research collection is a
collaborative effort between faculty and librarians.
I hope that this project will result in a collection that is
more attuned to your needs and to the needs of your students.
Sincerely,
Elaine M. Albright
Dean of Cultural Affairs
and Libraries
