| Fogler Welcomes New Staff
Laura Gallucci joined the staff at Fogler Library in August. She is the URSUS Library Systems Manager and is responsible for maintaining the quality and performance of URSUS, the integrated library system and online web catalog that serves the seven campus libraries, the Maine State Library, the Bangor Public Library, and the State Law and Legislative Reference Library. Gallucci also oversees systems that support access to electronic database subscriptions for the University libraries and database subscriptions licensed for statewide access by libraries and schools. The URSUS Library Systems Manager is a new position to the Information Systems Office staff. Laura focuses on training staff and further developing URSUS functionality to better serve staff, students, and faculty. Previously, Gallucci was employed as the Systems Librarian for Technology Services at the Port Jefferson Free Library in Port Jefferson, New York. Gallucci was instrumental in creating this pioneer position, the first of its kind in Suffolk County. This position served as a model for public libraries to employ librarian / computer technician hybrids as part of their regular staffing, as opposed to contracting outside vendors. Gallucci holds a Masters degree in Library Science from Queen's College, City University of New York, and a Bachelors degree in Viola Performance from the Eastman School of Music. She has been a librarian for over ten years. In addition, she has been a musical performer and composer for over twenty-six years. In her free time, she spends time with her family, plays in the band St. Huckleberry with her husband, and plays in the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. |
