Creating queries

The results of you queries will be displayed in a table. The database allows you to specify the information you want displayed in the columns and rows of the table.

  1. Before you begin to create your table, decide if you need a filter. The filter defines the population you are drawing from. The default filter is all Americans over 18. To change the filter, select a question from the list on the left of the screen. Once you've identified a specific question, click on the filter icon filter icon to add it to the filter.
  2. Now, you're ready to start building your table. First, select the questions to add to your columns. Typically, the columns represent demographic aspects - what you want to know about the people/households in the survey. For instance, gender, education, income, etc. Once you've selected them, add them to your columns by clicking on the column icon column icon.
  3. Next, select questions to add to your rows. Typically the rows represent - what you want to know about the attitudes or behaviors of the people/households in the survey. For instance, foods they eat, magazines they read, cars they buy, etc. Once you've selected them, add them to your rows by clicking on the row icon row icon.
