Government Publications   Collects, processes and makes available public documents of the US federal, Canadian federal and provincial governments, and publications of Agricultural Experiment Stations of the 50 states and territories.
The Library has over 2.3 million government publications in paper, microform, map, audio and videocassette, CD-ROM and DVD formats. Most are cataloged in URSUS and available within the building.   on demand from the Reference Desk. About 250,000 more are accessible online via links in URSUS.
Government Publications Maps Area
Maps   The Department houses most of the Library's maps.  A selection, which includes sheet and folded maps from governmental and non-governmental sources, is available in the Map Area on the first floor, with others available on demand from the Reference Desk.  All are cataloged in URSUS or in special map indexes.
GIS    GeoStats assists users to identify, find and use numeric data (digitized tables of numbers e.g. population, consumer price index) and spatial data (maps in digital form). People informally refer to this as "GIS", or "geographic information systems".  A high-end computer workstation with appropriate GIS and statistical analysis software and a wide-format color plotter is available for users to make customized maps showing how their particular interest is distributed geographically, e.g. family income by county in Maine.
Microforms   The Library's 2.5 million microforms are easily accessible in several self-service areas, with viewing and free photocopying facilities for these, in the central stacks portion of the first floor.
