Where
can I find the 9/11 Commission report?
The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, known
as the 9-11 Commission, prepared an account of the circumstances surrounding
the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. The
report can be obtained in four ways: at our
library
and other federal
depository
libraries; download from the
web;
purchase a bound edition from the
Government
Printing Office via web, e-mail or in a GPO Bookstore; and local
commercial bookstores.
Where can I
find military specifications?
Generally, the voluminous full text and
images of military specification are not sent to depositories, and are not available freely online.
Contact the run by Eastern Maine Development Corporation for assistance.
The following agency has indexes of military
specifications and sells them:
Department of Defense Single Stock Point
(DODSSP). First,
register
online. Registration is free and allows you to search the ASSIST (Acquisition
Streamlining and Standardization Information System) database.
How can I
find out about the alleged alien spacecraft in Roswell, New
Mexico?
The Air Force has information on
its page about the
Roswell Incident (i.e. aliens in
the New Mexico desert). Although the Air Force site does not have the
entire report on the Web an
executive
summary is available online. We have received the report in our government
document depository. Look it up in the
URSUS
online catalog.
Where can I find
information about United Nations documents?
Go to the
United
Nations Documentation Centre official site and
click on the category that interests you. There are thousands of
documents available there including many current documents put up
throughout the site, under various topical links. Explore the link tabs at the
top of the page for example "Maps and Geographic Information" and "UN Webcasts". The
U.N. has always done an excellent job of maintaining and adding to
their Web site. The Library also maintains a collection of U.N. Documents.
See this page for details.
Where can I
find the federal budget?
The
Budget of the United States Government, Fiscal Year [date] is online via GPO
Access. The menus direct the user to choices of the separate
components of the Budget, such as Analytical Perspectives or
Historical Tables, and offer a text search. The descriptions of
the component volumes are not immediately visible, as they are
below the menu choice and the text search box. But a link at the
top of the page takes the user down to these, if needed.
Where can I get
federal tax forms online?
Go to the
Internal Revenue Service site.
Click on "Forms and
Publications" (in tiny print on the left column of their page). Retrieval of files will be
slow during peak hours on weekdays. Make sure you have
Adobe
Acrobat Reader installed, as most forms are in the .pdf form which
designed to be displayed by that program.
Where can I
find the "Plum Book"?
The
Plum Book is
a listing of government positions that are filled by appointment,
rather than by competitive civil service protocols.
What have
they found out about the TWA Flight 800 airline crash?
Information from the National
Transportation Safety Board about the
TWA Flight
800 crash can be found at
their Web site.
