HEALTH EDUCATION RESOURCE COLLECTION

Frequently Asked Questions

Who may borrow materials from HERC?  Any MAINE school system, teacher, community organization, health facility or individual resident.

May I have a catalog sent to me?  In our attempt to better serve the health education community of Maine by keeping down costs and providing accurate and timely information, we will NO LONGER be printing a yearly hard copy version of the catalog.  These catalogs were time-consuming to produce, expensive to print, and out-of-date the moment they were mailed. Instead, we will use this online catalog as our sole source of available HERC materials. The online catalog is updated whenever HERC receives a new or updated resource. Please check the Recent Additions page often for the very latest in available HERC material.

How long may I have borrowed items?  Printed materials may be borrowed for a period of two weeks, audio-visual materials for one week.  All items are due back one week from their scheduled due date. See below.

May I use an item for longer than the above borrowing periods? Provided nobody else is waiting to use a resource, we can usually arrange for a longer loan period. If you know you will need a resource longer than the standard loan period, please let us know when you make your initial request. If you need an extension of a resource you currently have on loan, you must contact HERC (phone or email) for approval.

Who pays postage/shipping costs? HERC covers postage/shipping costs TO the borrower. The borrower is responsible for return postage/shipping costs, and for any materials lost or damaged.

May I have the materials in two days?  We try to send materials to arrive by the scheduled dates, but cannot guarantee delivery on short notification.  Most items are sent library rate or UPS, depending on the size.  We request ten (10) days advance notification prior to the date you wish to receive materials.  Materials are mailed Monday through Friday, so please plan accordingly.

I am looking for a particular title or subject that HERC does not own. Can you help me?  HERC tries to keep the collection timely and up-to-date. If you cannot find a specific title or subject in our online catalog, please call, email, or use the comments form below. Be as specific as possible! We will attempt to find the material from other sources, or even consider purchasing it for the collection.
