Policies for Requesting Material 

- HERC materials may be borrowed by any MAINE school system, teacher, community organization, health facility or individual.

- When requesting materials, please provide 7 WORKING DAYS advance notice.

Hours:  HERC Office - Monday - Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
            Learning Materials Center - Monday - Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Loan Period:  Audiovisuals - One Week from the Reserve Date
                      Printed Materials - Two Weeks from the Reserve Date

Overdue Materials:   HERC does not charge fines for overdue materials.  However, borrowers are strongly encouraged to return all materials as soon as possible and on time, as others may be waiting for them.

Returning Materials:  Borrowers are responsible for return postage. Wrap materials securely and safely when returning.  Please return by mail or UPS/FedEx/etc....

All materials should be put in the mail by the date indicated on the "Date Due" card.

Ordering Instructions:

1.  Accurately list ALL titles wanted (IE: not just a series name). Indicate format of resource (IE: VHS, DVD, book, curriculum, etc...).
2.  Give first choice of use date; and if possible, indicate alternate date preferences.  If the date requested in the ONLY date upon which you could use the resource, please make a note of that.
3.  When ordering for preview, note that it is a preview and schedule it for one or two days only.
4.  Seven working days notice required.  Materials are shipped to arrive on or before the first scheduled date of use.  Should you desire to have materials early on Monday morning, it is suggested that the request booking period begin on the preceding Friday.  Check dates of school vacations and holidays before submitting orders.
5.  We will contact the requestor if the item desired is not available on the date requested.
6.  If you wish to hold materials beyond the return date on the date due card, please secure permission for such an extension by telephoning or e-mailing HERC.  Permission will be granted whenever possible.
7.  Please do not repair damaged resources.  Return them with a note indicating the damage and it will be repaired.
8.  All resources are expensive.  Please treat with care. Charges for materials lost or destroyed will consist of the cost of replacement and handling charges.
