1. SERVICES
A. COMPUTER MAPPING/GIS CLINICS THROUGH NOV. 20 FREE TO FACULTY AND STUDENTS
Announcing "GIS/Computer Mapping Clinics," offering consultation on any stage
of a faculty or student computer mapping project, and introducing the GeoStats
facilities to carry out all or some of it here in the Library. Clinic hours are
Monday-Thursday 9 am - 2 pm from now until November 20. To make an appointment

The Library also offers a series of 3-hour GIS workshops and a one-day

2. DATABASES
A. CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION - ONLINE SERVICE
University users may access the online version of the Chronicle by going to
the Library's Indexes and Databases page <library.umaine.edu/indexesdb/Indexes.asp>
and clicking on Chronicle of Higher Education.
The Chronicle of Higher Education Online Service is updated daily and
provides news, information, and job listings for people in academe. The
Chronicle's Web site features the text from the current print edition, posted
every Monday morning; commentary and essays from the weekly magazine, The
Chronicle Review; daily news and advice columns; thousands of current job
listings; a searchable archive of every issue published since September 1989;
slide shows, podcasts, and video; discussion forums; data from the annual
Almanac of Higher Education and other reports; and career-building tools such as
online CV management, salary databases, and more.
Users may want to go to <chronicle.com/services>
to create a free personal account in order to sign up for various e-mail
updates, to participate in online forums, and to utilize career services.
Available e-mail updates are listed at <chronicle.com/help/emails/> including
job alerts, Academe Today, Academe This Week, The Wired Campus, The Community
College Newsletter, and more. A variety of news feeds in RSS format are also
available via <chronicle.com/help/rss.htm>.
B. TEACHER REFERENCE CENTER NOW LINKED ON INDEXES & DATABASES PAGE
Teacher Reference Center, a new free EBSCOhost database, has been added to
our listing of resources on the Library's Indexes & Databases page <library.umaine.edu/indexesdb/Indexes.asp>
Teacher Reference Center is an index of over 260 titles from the most popular
teacher and administrator trade journals, periodicals, and books, offered free
by EBSCO. This database provides coverage on key education topics such as
Assessment, Continuing Education, Current Pedagogical Research, Curriculum
Development, Instructional Media, Language Arts, Literacy Standards, Science &
Mathematics, and more, for K-12 Teachers & Librarians.
