1. ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. SPRINGER MYCOPY BOOKS
Faculty, staff, and students who wish to purchase a print copy of selected
Springer e-books may now do so at a reduced rate via the Springer MyCopy
program. This program is available to UMaine because Fogler Library has
purchased Springer e-book collections. Soft-cover black and white copies are
shipped to you for $24.95 per book, including shipping. Registration and a
credit card payment are required. Nearly 16,000 titles are available (note: some
e-books are not available via MyCopy due to length or numerous photographic
images). Browse e-books in SpringerLink from <http://www.library.umaine.edu/indexesdb/Indexes.asp>.
2. SERVICES
A. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
The Special Collections Department, established in 1970, is the place to find
all things Maine-related at Fogler Library. Books, pamphlets, maps, state
documents, town reports, newspapers and periodicals provide extensive coverage
of Maine’s communities, counties, people and institutions. Works by Maine
authors and books about Maine artists trace the creative history of the state. A
wide variety of historically significant primary source material such as
personal papers and records of businesses, fraternal and civic organizations and
other institutions provide ample opportunities for original research. The
William S. Cohen Papers, donated by Secretary Cohen to the University, offer an
in-depth look into a life of political participation and civic involvement.
Special Collections is also the place to find theses and dissertations awarded
by the University as well as publications of University faculty and academic
departments and a wonderful collection of historic photographs of campus
buildings and activities. Materials of all types are added regularly--there's
always something new and interesting to see. For more information about Special
Collections, visit the department web site at: <http://www.library.umaine.edu/speccoll/
> or contact Brenda Howitson Steeves at 581-1798 or email <brenda.steeves@umit.maine.edu>.
