1. PEOPLE
A. BEN PROUD: SPECIAL COLLECTIONS REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
Ben Proud joined the staff at Fogler Library in January as the Special
Collections Reference Librarian. His responsibilities are to help find
materials for patrons, make the collections more accessible to the public,
and increase awareness of Special Collections. Proud also helps in
accessioning and processing newly acquired materials.

Proud worked at the University of Pittsburgh's Archives Service Center as a
reference librarian after receiving his Masters in Library Science from that
institution in August, 2002. He graduated in 2001 with a BA in Russian from
Juniata College, under whose aegis he also studied in Volgograd, Russia
during his junior year. In his free time, Proud likes to read and browse
through used bookstores. He is also hoping to make the most of Maine's
outdoors once he gets settled. Proud can be reached by phone at
(207-581-1686) or via e-mail at ben.proud@umit.maine.edu.

2. DATABASES
A. NEW DATABASE: ITER, GATEWAY TO THE MIDDLE AGES AND RENAISSANCE
Fogler Library now has access to Iter, a searchable online bibliography of
literature pertaining to the Middle Ages and Renaissance (400-1700). Iter
includes citations to monographs, journal articles, essays, and reviews,
with some sources covered as far back as the 1940s. For assistance in
searching Iter, please contact Mel Johnson
(Mel.Johnson@umit.maine.edu) or Reference (207-581-1673).
