1.   NEWS & EVENTS
A.   MMMMM! ASIAN DINNER
Please join us for a Lunar New Year Celebration on Sunday, February 6, 2005, 5 - 7 p.m. in the Thomas Lynch University Club, at Fogler Library, sponsored by the Fogler Library Friends. Guests will have the opportunity to celebrate the lunar new year and learn about Asian culture as they enjoy a special dinner prepared by UMaine’s Asian Student Association. The menu will include:
   Ngaum (Cambodian salad - cabbage, carrot, cucumber, vinegar); Nem (Vietnamese spring rolls); Steamed Rice/Vegetable Fried Rice; Pho dac biet Ha Noi (Vietnamese noodle soup with chicken, green onions, parsley, and fish sauce) ; Ma Po Tofu (a Chinese dish with tofu, red chili sauce); Banh Chung (Vietnamese New Year's Cake- sticky rice, bean, pork and spices).

    Also: Stir-fried Boy Choy (Chinese with boy choy and oyster sauce); Banh cuon (Vietnamese rice pancakes - minced pork, mushrooms, prawns, shallots, cilantro and sauce); Sesame Niu Pai (Chinese sesame steak- sesame seeds, steak, pepper, mushroom, spices); Khrop khnorr (Cambodian cakes - yellow bean, egg, coconut milk, sugar); Pisang Goreng (Malaysian deep-fried bananas - rice flour, bananas, lime); Jasmine Tea , and Fresh Lime Juice. 2. DATABASES
A   SPORTDISCUS DATABASE NOW AVAILABLE .
SPORTDiscus is now available as an online searchable database at www.library.umaine.edu/indexesdb/dbdetails.asp?field=Name&search=SPORTDiscus. SPORTDiscus covers all aspects of sports. Subjects include biomechanics, coaching, engineering, physical therapy, and physiology. IT Indexes over 2,000 journals as well as books, theses, and non-print resources. The database is updated monthly.

3. PEOPLE
A. INTRODUCING NEW REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
Joe Fernandez is the Social Sciences & Humanities Reference Librarian at Fogler Library. In addition to providing reference services, he will be teaching library research sessions. His areas of collection development are Anthropology, Art, Communication & Journalism, and Dance & Theatre. Prior to joining Fogler Library, Joe worked as a Librarian at the State Library in Sydney, Australia and at Northeastern University in Boston.
