Web Authoring

Fp. Introduction to FrontPage
Wed., 27 Feb., 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Learn how to create web pages using Microsoft FrontPage. Topics will include: creating hyperlinks, adding images, and creating tables. Note: FrontPage is a PC only application.

Dw. Introduction to Dreamweaver
Wed., 19 Mar., 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Dreamweaver is a sophisticated HTML editor and web-authoring tool. It offers easy to use visual editing features and customization options. This class is an introduction to the application. No prior knowledge of Dreamweaver is required.


Adobe Suite Training

Ps-i. Introduction to PhotoShop
Tues., 26 Feb., 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
This workshop provides an introduction and overview of Adobe PhotoShop with a focus on basic photographic editing techniques. No prior knowledge of PhotoShop is required.

Ps-ex. Preparing images for publication:
PhotoShop CS3 Extended as a tool for researchers
Tues., 18 Mar., 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
This workshop is designed to help researchers and students understand how to enhance and prepare images for specific output venues. It also provides an introduction to PhotoShop as a tool in scientific research. Topics include: basic image editing, creating composites, enhancing with color cast, setting a measurement scale, adding measurement markers, recording measurements, and saving for publication and display. No prior knowledge of PhotoShop is required. FREE for students who will be using PhotoShop for their course work or dissertations.

Id1. Introduction to InDesign
Thurs., 28 Feb., 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
InDesign is an industry standard desktop publishing application and is part of the Adobe Creative Suite that also includes PhotoShop and Illustrator. InDesign is the perfect solution for all your print publication needs and a great choice for research papers and dissertations. This workshop introduces the program and provides an overview of the essential features.

Thurs., 20 Mar., 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
This workshop uses the basic skills from the Intro to InDesign workshop as a starting point for exploring the application’s more advanced tools. Topics include: import options, creating outlines, type on a path, footnotes, tables, and setting up a book file. Participants will also learn how to work with Adobe Bridge, the organizational tool and file browser that is part of Adobe Creative Suite.

Ill. Illustrator
Tues., 25 Mar., 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Adobe Illustrator is the industry-standard vector or object-oriented drawing program. This workshop provides an introduction and overview of the program. Topics include: working with text and page layout, drawing tools, gradients, mesh objects, and using the graph tool. There will also be tips for using Illustrator and PhotoShop together. Prerequisite: Experience with PhotoShop or other drawing programs strongly recommended.

FREE Workshop

Wed., 26 Mar., 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.

EndNote is a commercial tool for managing and using citations. This workshop will teach you direct searching with EndNote, exporting from databases into EndNote, and Write-N-Cite. The library classroom has 10 PC computers with EndNote XI. Mac Users may bring their own laptops.

Wi. Wikipedia – the good, the bad and the ugly!
FREE Workshop

Wed., Jan 23, 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Wikipedia is used widely for a variety of purposes. Many students also use Wikipedia as part of their research many without realizing that it is only a work in progress with numerous issues that may be problematic. In this presentation, we will talk about the problems associated with Wikipedia and how to evaluate Wikipedia articles. We will also discuss alternatives to Wikipedia that students could use for their class assignments and projects.
