New Resources since 4/1/2014Field book for describing and sampling soils, Version 3.0.
URSUS - the online catalogue of the University of Maine System, contains a wealth of information on geology and related topics. Searching is by author, title, keyword, subject, and call number. Through URSUS you can find books, conference, symposium, and workshop proceeding volumes, University of Maine theses and dissertations, and state, federal, Canadian, and other international documents. Material is catalogued by Library of Congress Subject Headings. The following subject headings may get you started in your search:
formations (geology), geochemistry, geological mapping, geological surveys, geology economic, geology maps, geology stratigraphic, geology structural, historical geology, isotope geology, physical geology, sediments geology
A good way to search URSUS is by keyword. Using the keyword search option you can combine various keywords together using AND, OR, and parentheses. If you wanted to find information on soils in Maine or Vermont your search might look like this:
(soil or soils) and (vermont or maine or new england)
Bibliography of Maine Geology
This bibliography is now included in the Maine Geological Survey Publication Search engine. Includes Cyrus C. Babb’s Bibliography of Maine Geology, 1913-1972. Over 4,000 records have been added since the last 1972 edition, bringing the total to over 7,000 records. Searchable by author, title, where published, date of publication, and keyword. Includes citations only. Indexes journals, proceedings, theses and dissertation, and USGS reports. Compiled by Robert D. Tucker and Marc C. Loiselle, Natural Resources Information and Mapping Center, Maine Geological Survey, Maine Department of Conservation.

A searchable database of citations from articles in the following three GSA publications: Geology (1973-present), GSA Bulletin (1945-present), Geosphere (2005-present), Lithosphere (2009-present), and GSA Today (1995-present)
1785-present online. If you are connecting to this database off the
University of Maine campus but within the State of Maine, please connect through
Technology & Business Library.
Established and maintained by the American Geosciences Institute, this database is the online equivalent of the print Bibliography and Index of Geology (Sci Index QE1.G2145, 1969-present). Searching is by author, title, subject, and abstract keyword. Over 3,500 serial titles are scanned for inclusion.
GeoRef preview database
Also made available through the American Geosciences Institute, this database allows users to preview records before they are input into the GeoRef database. It is updated weekly with records in various forms of completeness. Completed records are added to the GeoRef database.
Geochemistry of rocks of the oceans and continents
Search for citations by author and keyword and limit by date. From MPI fur Chemie, Manz, Germany
A bibliographic database of approximately 50,000 records, most of which are Natural Resources of Canada earth sciences publications. Searchable by title, author, and subject, area. Searches can be limited by province.
