Our Mission

As the Science, Technology and Business Research Library for the State of Maine, the Fogler Library serves as a resource for meeting the science, technology and business information needs of the citizens of state. The Library serves as a portal for information resources in these areas. As such, part of the mission of the Library is to collect, evaluate, organize and disseminate science, technology and business information resources to the people of Maine.

Selection Criteria

  • Authority: those resources authored or produced by individuals affiliated with government agencies, scholarly organizations, or professional associations or those that are favorably reviewed by persons affiliated with such organizations.
  • Currency: those resources that are up-to-date and show evidence of regular maintenance.
  • Content: those resources that contain substantive content such as primary documents, reports, articles or data. An effort will be made to avoid those resources that are simply directories of directories of information.
  • Audience: the primary audience at this time consists of professionals, businesses and upper-level academics.
  • Format/Type: the primary focus at this time is on resources that are accessible via the Internet and freely available to all Maine citizens (this includes the State funded subscription databases).
  • Scope: a special effort will be made to seek out and include relevant Maine-related resources (i.e., those produced in Maine or containing content about Maine).
