Fogler InfoNet Update

We have added three new Internet databases in the forest and veterinary sciences to the Fogler Library collections. All three are produced by CAB International, a major producer of information resources in agriculture and related areas. The databases index journal articles as well as books, reports, and conference proceedings. Each database contains the current year plus previous year of records corresponding to the printed index of the same name.

Forestry Abstracts indexes international literature on forestry, including silviculture, mensuration and management, fire, plant biology, genetics and breeding, mycology and pathology, insects and other invertebrates, land use, protection, and conservation. This database, updated monthly, covers over 750 journals. Forest Products Abstracts provides references to the forest products literature, including wood properties, timber extraction, conversion, measurement, damage, utilization, veneers, composite boards, laminated products, the pulp industry, and economics. The database, which is updated every other month, indexes over 450 journals. Veterinary Bulletin covers veterinary medical literature, including bacteriology, virology, parasites, toxicology, immunology, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, anatomy, and animal husbandry. It is updated monthly and indexes over 500 journals.

Fogler Library has also converted its Water Resources Abstracts subscription to a Web interface. This database indexes international scientific literature on all aspects of water resources issues. It includes citations to journal articles, monographs, technical reports, books, and conference proceedings. It is updated quarterly and its coverage extends back to 1967.

Access to all of these databases is controlled by IP address; all workstations on campus should be able to connect to them. To search the databases, select them from the alphabetical list on the Mariner "Electronic Indexes and Databases" page. You must reselect the CAB databases after connecting to the CAB system. Contact Jim Bird at 1-1697 or send e-mail if you have any questions about these databases.

NOTE: In the previous issue of Sci-Lites (7:1, Fall 1997) the coverage dates of four CAB databases--Nematological Abstracts, Review of Agricultural Entomology, Review of Plant Pathology, and Weed Abstracts--were listed incorrectly. All of the CAB databases accessible through the Fogler InfoNet cover the current year plus one previous year.
