"Do-It-Yourself" Database Searching
| Fogler Library makes available over fifty scientific and technical databases through its Web site. Sometimes, however, educators and students need to consult additional resources, including familiar favorites such as Biological Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, Science Citation Index, or Food Science and Technology Abstracts, and less well-known but high quality resources like Engineered Materials Abstracts, GEOBASE (a database of citations to geological and geographical literature), or Cambridge Scientific Abstracts' Life Sciences Collection. University of Maine faculty, staff, and students can search these databases, and numerous others, through the Library "Do-It-Yourself" service (also known as "CIP"). |
|
CIP databases are available by appointment only, and the
search service is restricted to use in support of the educational and
instructional needs of the University community. Prospective searchers
must attend a free introductory workshop, offered on demand, which
covers database selection, search strategy creation, and search
execution using the CIP command interface. Call your liaison librarian
to arrange a training session or to schedule a search appointment after
attending the training. NC |
| Note: Past users of the CIP service may recall paying a modest fee for searching databases. Currently the Library is fully subsidizing use of the service and there are no costs associated with conducting a search. |
