Databases for Articles

There are several databases that are useful for psychology students and faculty. These databases can be accessed in the library or remotely from your home computer. You will need to enter the number on the back of your Maine Card in order to access the databases remotely. Your Maine Card must be activated by the circulation desk before the databases will let you connect. Activation is done automatically if you check out a book from circulation. If you have not checked out a book since the fall semester please remember to have your card activated at the circulation desk. This needs to be done every year since the records are purged in the summer. 

• PsycINFO - Professional and academic literature in psychology and related fields from 1887-present
• CogPrints - Archive of cognitive science papers including preprints, journal articles, and conference proceedings
• MEDLINE - Clinical and experimental medical journal articles
• ERIC - Journal articles and abstracts on educational research from 1966-present
• Sociological Abstracts - Abstracts and journal articles on sociology and related subjects from 1974-present

Assessment Tools for Psychologists

    Sources and Critiques of Tests

Fogler Library has a number of books that provide information and reviews on assessment tools. These books are located in the Reference area and can be used inside the library. The ETS TestLink is a free searchable database that can be accessed from any computer. Mental Measurements Yearbook is a subscription online database.

• ETS TestLink - 20,000 standardized tests and research instruments  from the early 1900s to the present
• Mental Measurements Yearbook - Subscription database of reviews of over 2,200 commercial tests by Buros Institute of Mental Measurements .
• Tests Reviews Online- Free online guide to test descriptions by Buros Institute of Mental.
• Tests and Measures in the Social Sciences - A guide compiled by Helen Hough, Health Sciences Librarian at the University of Texas.
• Directory of Unpublished Experimental Mental Measures - Information includes primary citation. Volumes 1-8 (1974-2002).   Ref BF 431 G625
• Handbook of Psychological Assessment - A guide to classic tests for psychological assessment, including Wechsler Intelligence Scales, Bender-Gestalt, Rorschach, the Minnesota Multiphasic, and projective drawings.    Ref BF176. G76 1997
• Tests: A Comprehensive Reference for Assessments in Psychology, Education, and Business  - Intended for a clinical or counseling audience.  BF176 .T43 2003

    Books with Sample Instruments

Fogler Library has several books that contain descriptions and instruments of psychological assessment. Descriptions contain information about the validity, reliability, of the instruments as well as a citation to the primary article which used the assessment These books are located in the Reference area and can be used inside the library.

Style Guides and Publishing

Fogler Library has resources to help write term papers and to submit scholarly articles for publication. Locations are indicated.

• APA Style Tips - Includes information about citing electronic resources. Can be accessed from any computer.
• EndNote - Information about software to manage bibliographic citations. Can be access from any computer.
• Publication Manual of the American Psychology Association. 5th Edition. 2001  Located in Ready Reference.
• Guide to Publishing in Psychology Journals - Tips from published authors and editors of journals. This book is in the stacks.  BF76.8 .G85 2000
• Journals in Psychology: A Resource Listing for Authors  Ref BF 76.8 .J68 1997 Includes notes on submission, editorial policy, and rejection rates. Located in Reference area.
