James E. BirdHead, Science & Engineering Center |
I joined the Science and Engineering Center in September of 1993. Prior to coming to the University of Maine, I was the life sciences and agricultural reference librarian at University of Maryland, College Park. I hold a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Riverside and a M.L.S. from Simmons College, Boston. I have held positions at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and the Center for Long Term Research, now known as the Whale Conservation Institute, in Lincoln, MA. I have a number of years experience studying various species and populations of marine mammals. Much of this work was for the Minerals Management Service to assess the effects of offshore oil and gas exploration and development on marine mammal migratory and feeding behavior. This work was done through contracts with LGL Limited and Bolt, Berenak, and Newman, now BBN Technologies.
I am liaison for and select materials in: Biological Sciences; Biosystems Science and Engineering; Food Science and Human Nutrition; Forest Ecosystem Science, Forest Management; Geological Sciences; Marine Sciences; Plant, Soil and Environmental Sciences; Quaternary Studies; Resource Economics and Policy; and Wildlife Ecology.
