Special Collections Procedures: The Maine Collection

Purpose: to give an overview and particular procedures for items acquired for the Maine Collection.

Components

• Books by Maine authors (i.e., people who were born in Maine and/or have lived in Maine for a substantial part of their lives, including seasonal residents who have owned property and spent significant years in Maine).
• Books about Maine (i.e., at least one-third of the subject matter covers Maine subjects)

Procedures
Most Maine books are copy cataloged.  If Copy Cataloging has any question, the book, PO, and other relevant information are given to Original Cataloging.

An exception is town histories, etc. (classification F29). Original Cataloging should always catalog these items, in order to apply the proper Cutter numbers (see F29 Town Cutter List).

Multiple Copies
Copy 2, etc. may circulate.
