Cataloging Audio Books

These come as sets of audiocassettes or sets of compact discs or CD-ROMS. They are a separate collection in the Listening Center. 

Processing

  1. Pre-stamp = Audio Book
  2. Item location = olisa
  3. ITYPE (ty) = 70
  4. MAT TYPE (b1) – the usual code for the format
  5. When an item for an audio book is added to a bib record for another version (such as a print version) of the work:
    • Leave MAT TYPE = a for Sound, non-music. 
    • Add another 300 field for physical description of the audio book. 
    • Add a 511 field for the narrator (Audio Book narrated by …). 
    • Add a 700 field for the narrator.
  6. In item, insert an item message with the number of pieces.
  7. For each, use subject heading: 650 0 Audiobooks

Physical processing

  1. Spine label on container
  2. Call # label on each cassette
  3. Crack and peel bookplate inside container
  4. NO STRIP

N.B. Pre-stamp Audio Books is two words. Subject heading Audiobooks is one word.
