Fogler Librarians present at Maine Library Association Annual Conference

At this year’s Maine Library Association Conference, librarians Christopher Clark and John Hutchinson discussed the Maine Business, Science and Technology Library (MBSTL). MBSTL is an ongoing project spearheaded by business and science librarians to curate and manage publicly accessible resources to serve and support small businesses within the state of Maine.

This presentation included an overview of MBSTL at the University of Maine, its resources, its collaboration efforts with public libraries and small businesses, and its efforts to make useful information available within areas of interest to the public.

Lindsay Decker, ILL & Asst. Collection Services Librarian, participated in several sessions at MLA’s Annual Conference. She presented “Long-shots and Side Quests: Filling those Hard-to-get Interlibrary Loan Requests” on tools and strategies for communicating with libraries internationally to borrow materials for library patrons. In collaboration with Harley Rogers from the University of Mississippi, she co-presented “Sustainable Social Media: Balancing Patron Rights and Library Protection” on crafting library social media policies to protect patron safety, privacy and first amendment rights. Along with other members of MLA’s Intellectual Freedom committee, she also facilitated discussion on the topic of “Resisting Soft Censorship: Building a Community of Practice.”
