| | Book Talk: Nothing Made Up — Why We Read What’s Real | | |
Calling all book lovers! Everyone is invited to attend Fogler Library’s Book Talk on Friday, November 14th, 5–7 p.m.
This month’s conversation will explore the enduring appeal of memoirs, biographies and other storytelling based on actual people and events and will seek to understand why we are drawn to stories based on real life.
Book Talk is held around the middle of most months (no Book Talk in December this year) on a Friday evening. Watch this newsletter for details of upcoming events.
Book Talk: Not a Club. A Conversation.

Ways to partner with your Research & Instruction librarians
We will be providing a monthly update on the many ways you can partner with librarians in Fogler’s Research & Instruction Department.
Every academic department has a subject librarian, and faculty, staff and students are encouraged to contact them to support your information needs.
This includes identifying, accessing and evaluating appropriate information sources. Subject librarians maintain general purpose, course, subject, and topic guides, primarily geared towards undergraduate students, and are also available for individual or small group consultations for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff.
Subject librarians also provide information literacy curriculum assistance, which can include helping to develop appropriate assignments, as well as guides, videos, and tailored instruction sessions for students.
Reach out to your subject librarian to see how they can help you!

Dynamic Health
Dynamic Health, accessible from Fogler’s Database List, was developed as a tool to replace Nursing Reference Center Plus which is no longer available. It is an evidence-based tool designed to help nurses and allied health professionals master skills, obtain fast answers to questions and foster a culture of evidence-based practice and critical thinking leading to improved patient outcomes. It contains disease & condition overviews, symptom guides, test & lab information, care interventions, illustrated guides & checklists, drug monographs from Davis’s Drug Guide, patient handouts, content for continuing education, treatment modalities, and cultural overviews.
If you have questions about Dynamic Health Reach out to our Nursing Subject Specialist Librarian, Heather Perrone.

New from Special Collections and Projects: Students create new signs for the Kenduskeag Trail
UMaine history students, using Special Collections and Projects’ materials to do their research, have created a fresh set of interpretive signage to replace the aging displays that once lined the Kenduskeag Stream Heritage Trail.
The new signs explore topics including author Stephen King’s ties to the city, Bangor’s lumber boom, the Great Fire of 1911, the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race and Wabanaki history. Each display pairs written history with images and QR codes linked to videos, music, archival photos and local organizations.
Some of the panels update information that appeared on the original signs installed in 2008, while others introduce new stories that have never before been featured along the trail. The city plans to install the new signs later this year.
