Maine Day of Service — Gardening with Fogler Library!
Tuesday, April 28 is the annual Maine Day of Service, and Fogler Library will once again be marking the day by cleaning up the gardens at the east entrance of the library.
Any interested volunteers are welcome to grab a rake or a spade, and come and help us beautify our part of the campus. We will be there between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Gardening equipment will be provided by Facilities Management.

Countdown to Maine Day of Giving!
Maine Day of Giving is a day of philanthropy at the University of Maine where UMaine alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends join together from anywhere by making a gift to support what they love about the “College of Our Hearts, Always.”

Therapy dogs return to Fogler Library
The ever-popular therapy dogs will be returning to Fogler Library on Tuesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 30, 2-4 p.m. on both days, to help bring relaxation and laughter to students as the stress of finals week looms on the horizon.
Therapy dogs have been visiting Fogler at the start of the academic year and during finals week every year since 2013, when Fogler’s then public relations manager, Gretchen Gfeller, teamed up with Rebecca Henderson of Renaissance Dogs. The dogs, along with their volunteer handlers, never fail to be a hit with students and employees alike.

Fogler landscaping proposal to be unveiled
On Thursday, April 30 at 3 p.m., Environmental Horticulture student Benjamin Flannery will be giving a presentation on his Fogler landscape proposal for the north patio area, which he selected as his service learning capstone project and has been developing over the past few months. Flannery’s project aligns with UMaine Libraries’ Sustainable Libraries Initiative certification, which asks us to support native landscapes, as well as qualifying UMaine to become a Bee Campus USA campus.
All are invited to attend this event, which will be held in the Salon at Fogler Library, and will also be available on Zoom. Light refreshments will be served.

| | Fogler showcases the fascinating story of Margaret E. Knight | | |
Fogler Library is celebrating the amazing life of Maine inventor Margaret E. Knight. She began inventing at age 12, while working at a mill and went on to a life of invention and patents. From the mass production of flat-bottomed paper bags to household items and internal combustion engines, she never stopped inventing. In 1870, when one of her patents was stolen, she fought it in one of the most complex patent interference cases of the 19th century.
We invite you to learn more about this native Maine inventor and her amazing life by visiting our online guide, and by our exhibit dedicated to Knight which is currently on display in the Jones Room on the 2nd floor of Fogler Library.

All Maine Women Visit to Special Collections and Projects
Many UMaine student groups have new members visit the Special Collections and Projects Department to learn about the history of the group they are joining. This past Friday (April 17th) Special Collections welcomed members of the honors society All Maine Women, who used material from the University Archive to research their group’s 101 years of history!
