UMaine Libraries librarians present at annual MLA conference

Fogler Library librarians Lindsay Decker and Matthew Revitt and Jerry Lund, head of Fogler’s Circulation Department, presented at the annual Maine Library Association (MLA) Conference on Monday at Thomas College in Waterville. Their presentation was titled “Exfoliating Fogler: Large Scale Deaccessioning with the Internet Archive” and described Fogler Library’s work earlier this year.

Also participating were Maine InfoNet executive director James Jackson Sanborn, who served as a panelist for a discussion on “Digital Content Discussions in Maine Libraries,” UMaine Libraries Open Access librarian Casey Koons, who spoke on Tuesday about “How to Protect Digital Privacy on a Hostile Web,” and UMaine Libraries Open Educational Resources librarian Tom Hardy who, along with David Smith of Thomas College, presented “OER Basics for Librarians.”

A new exhibition in Fogler Library’s north-south hallway showcases the work of four talented student artists who participated in classes given by the Department of Art over the past year. The display will run through the 2026-27 academic year. We would like to thank Professor Diana Baumbach for her ongoing partnership in bringing student work to the library. Please stop by to view this collaborative installation when you are on campus.

Birds of the World, produced by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, provides comprehensive information on birds such as behavior, habitat, range maps, images, and more. It brings together scholarly content from four major works of ornithology: Birds of North America, The Handbook of Birds of the World, Neotropical Birds, and Bird Families of the World. It also includes millions of bird observations from eBird and multimedia from the Macaulay Library. Continually updated.
