DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun event where you’ll have a chance to edit and improve pages on Wikipedia! \nTogether\, we can increase the representation of contributors and topics on Wikipedia like women in STEM\, black artists\, activists of color\, and the LGBTQ community. People are also encouraged to bring their own ideas for topics! \nYou don’t need any experience editing Wikipedia to participate\, and you can stop by anytime between 6pm and 9pm to learn the best practices of editing a Wikipedia article. \nThe Edit-a-thon is free and open to everyone!

DESCRIPTION:Books in My Life: Reading that Transforms will feature Jane Wellman-Little\, a faculty member in the College of Education and Human Development\, on February 22\, at 7pm in the Fogler Library Classroom. \nJane Wellman-Little is a literacy lecturer in the College of Education and Human Development. In addition to working as a professor at the University of Maine\, she has also spent twenty-four years as an elementary school teacher\, teaching kindergarten\, first grade\, and reading recovery. She is a member of the International Reading Association\, and the courses she teaches at the University include Literacy Assessment\, Language Arts\, and Children’s Literature. \nAbout the Series\nIn this series\, members of the UMaine community will speak about their experience of reading\, their awakening as readers\, their past and current best books (and maybe even their worst reads). They’ll venture far outside their scholarly fields and bring us into the world of their personal reading. Join us as we explore the role of reading in our lives!

DESCRIPTION:This workshop will provide attendees with an introduction to Excel. This introduction will cover the Excel interface\, how to interpret data and make basic tables and figures\, and how to manipulate large amounts of data using pivot tables. \nBy the end of the workshop\, attendees will be able to utilize frequently used tools in Microsoft Excel. \nAbout the Presenter: Shuling Chen is an M.S. Candidate in Marine Policy. Her research focuses on measuring the impact of temporary pollution closures on soft-shell clam fisheries.
