Search Guides to Manuscript Collections

This searchable database indexes the full text of 250 finding aids in Maine. A "finding aid" presents a detailed description of an individual collection and provides an inventory of primary sources (manuscripts, papers, pictures, etc.) in a collection.

Two repositories currently contribute to the database:

Simple Search

The simple search is a broad search that will find documents containing any of the search terms, including inflectional forms. When more than one term is used, documents containing all of the search terms will appear in the search results ahead of documents containing fewer search terms. Double quotes may be used to enclose exact phrases.

Advanced Search

Advanced search is narrower than the simple search. When multiple terms are used in a single textbox, it will find only documents containing all of the search terms (AND is implied). Double quotes may be used to enclose exact phrases. Use * as a wildcard to search for words starting with the specified characters, for example bus*.
