1. TONIGHT: Underrepresented Voices Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

Time & Date: February 8th, 6-9pm
Location: Library Classroom

Fogler Library will host a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, which will serve as an opportunity for students to learn the best practices of editing Wikipedia articles. The event will focus on increasing contributions and topics on Wikipedia from underrepresented groups such as women in STEM, black artists, activists of color, and the LGBTQ community. Students are also encouraged to bring their own ideas for topics.

No prior experience editing Wikipedia is necessary. Please share this event with students and colleagues in your department.

2. Call for Presenters: Fogler Library Workshop Series Spring 2017

The Fogler Library Workshop Series, which draws on speakers from the UMaine community who can present on diverse topics and expose students to new ideas and ways of thinking about information, is looking for graduate students who would like to develop and teach workshops this spring.

  • Potential topics include:
  • Computer Programming
  • CAD (Computer Aided Design) Programs
  • Financial Management
  • Microsoft Publisher
  • GIS Software and Programming
  • Microsoft Office
  • Computer Music
  • Advanced R for Statistics

3. Introduction to Microsoft Excel Workshop

Time & Date: February 23, 6-8pm
Location: Library Classroom

This workshop will provide attendees with an introduction to Excel. This introduction will cover the Excel interface, how to interpret data and make basic tables and figures, and how to manipulate large amounts of data using pivot tables.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will be able to utilize frequently used tools in Microsoft Excel.

About the Presenter: Shuling Chen is an M.S. Candidate in Marine Policy. Her research focuses on measuring the impact of temporary pollution closures on soft-shell clam fisheries.
