1. Grants 101: Seeking, Analyzing, and Writing Basics

The Office of Research Development and Fogler Library are sponsoring “Grants 101: Seeking, Analyzing, and Writing Basics.” At the workshop, participants will:
- search for grants in PIVOT
- analyze an agency’s Request for Proposals
- learn grant writing basics

2. Fake news, misinformation, and political bias: News literacy for the 21st century
Date & Time: Monday, March 25, 4:45 pm – 6:00 pm
Location: Fogler Library Classroom 1
Claims about fake news, bias, and misinformation have become much more prevalent in the past few years. But what is “fake news”? And what role does personal bias play in our perception of the news? Being a more informed 21st-century citizen requires a critical approach to the media. Join Judith Rosenbaum, Assistant Professor in Communication and Journalism, and Jen Bonnet, Social Sciences & Humanities Librarian, for an interactive workshop where we will unpack the many meanings of “fake news” and learn how to critically evaluate information we find online.

3. Human Dimensions of Climate Change Film Series: Just Eat It
Date & Time: Tuesday, March 26, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Location: Fogler Library Classroom 1
Just Eat It looks at our systemic obsession with expiration dates, perfect produce and portion sizes, and reveals the core of this seemingly insignificant issue that is having devastating consequences around the globe. This cinematic story is equal parts education and delicious entertainment.
Film showing includes a discussion led by Brie Berry, PhD candidate in Anthropology & Environmental Policy.
The Human Dimensions of Climate Change Film Series is sponsored by the Anthropology Department, Fogler Library, and the Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions.
4. The Scholar’s Trademark: build a brand that gets you hired, promoted, and tenured
Date & Time: Thursday, April 25, 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Fogler Library and Dr. Nick Mitchell from Clarivate Analytics will present a series of discussions focused on scholarly communication, bibliometrics, publishing, and more for faculty and graduate students. The following workshops will be part of the event:
- Session #1- Make it easy for a stranger to find your research publications
- Session #2- What metrics do hiring and promotion committees use to gauge “scholarship quality”?
- Session #3- Where and what should I publish to grow my research brand?
