Featured Resource: GIS Resources Guide
GIS data can be hard to track down in one convenient place. The GIS Resources guide contains links to free GIS data sources organized by region (federal, state, and international) or by subject. The guide also contains background information, links to GIS software (both university-subscribed and open source), and lists of books on GIS in the library.

1. ILLiad Maintenance on March 17

ILLiad will be down for server maintenance on Tuesday, March 17, from 10:00 am to noon. During this time access to your account will be unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience as we work to improve the service.

2. Google for Scholarly Research
Tuesday, March 10, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Fogler Library Classroom 1

Do you use Google when doing research for projects, papers, and assignments? Want to make sure you’re getting the best results from your searches?

Join us at Google for Scholarly Research to learn tips, tricks, and best practices to get the most out of Google Scholar and Google Books!

We’ll be covering search filters, research alerts, and even more ways to use Google to find the information you need!

3. Research Data Management Workshop
Monday, March 16, 9:00 am – 11:00 am
Fogler Library Classroom 1

Research data has value long after you publish an article. Where can you store it to comply with funder requirements? How can you share it with future collaborators, or store sensitive data securely? Use a data management plan and UMaine’s Advanced Computing Group (ACG) resources to organize the collection, analysis, and preservation of your research data.

At this workshop, learn about what ACG has to offer for all your research data compliance needs, including the Data Management Plan Tool (DMPTool), Maine Dataverse Network, and cloud data storage options—including Google Drive and Seafile—for handling your large data sets.

Laptops will be available for attendees who need to borrow one. This workshop is presented in collaboration with ACG

4. Power Researcher Challenge: Professional Development at Your Fingertips

Interested in learning about ways to take your research to the next level? Join us from the comfort of your office, home, or wherever you have an Internet-enabled device for the Power Researcher Challenge!

Each day for 5 days, you will receive an email with one or two suggested tasks designed to boost your research acumen, stay on top of literature in your field, avoid link rot in your references, and maintain research integrity.

The challenge will take place from March 16-20th. To join, sign up online. We encourage everyone who’s interested in the information to register — even if you won’t have time to complete the challenges during the Challenge Week.

All are welcome to participate – the activities may be especially resonant for faculty and graduate students. Contact Jen Bonnet (jenbonnet@maine.edu) with any questions.
