Digital Maine Library: WSJ, Ancestry.com & More!

Did you know? Some of the databases and subscriptions University of Maine users access through Fogler Library are available to us through the Digital Maine Library, funded by the state of Maine to ensure all Maine residents have free access to full text articles and other content from reliable sources. Publications include the Wall Street Journal and Nature. Some frequently used databases provided by the state of Maine include Ancestry.com, Gale Literary Criticism, and Environment Complete. Maine residents may access the resources in the Digital Maine Library, or learn more on their About page.

Fogler Librarians Participate in Maine Libraries Association Conference

Two of Fogler’s Research and Instruction librarians participated in the Maine Libraries Association Annual Conference (May 20–21, 2024). Christopher Clark discussed AI Literacy and Library Engagement, which covered the basics of AI literacy, and ways to both promote its use and navigate it safely and effectively. John Hutchinson presented on Trademarks, focusing on the new Trademark Search System from the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

New Catalog Update: Temporary Request Service Interruption

The University of Maine System Libraries (UMSL) will experience a temporary request service interruption from June to late September 2024. Public library patrons will be unable to initiate an online request from UMSL. The interruption is due to enhancements being implemented, which  will contribute to a more seamless and user-friendly experience, aligning with UMSL’s mission to provide exceptional library services.

Fogler Library receives Appreciation Award

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, Fogler Library opened its doors for extended hours to host the Western Winter Carnival, welcoming 550 students for this lively and fun event developed by the Center for Student Involvement. Calf petting, mechanical bull, lassoing, contra dancing, hobby horse racing — The Center for Student Involvement had it all! For our participation (displays, logistics, and on-site support that evening), Fogler received a University of Maine Appreciation Award for hosting Student Life’s “Program of the Year.” Here are some pics of the event!
