What’s “Fogler Plus”? Raymond H. Fogler Library, Merrill Library in Machias, Maine InfoNet, and the University of Maine Press provide library collections and related services under the direction of the University of Maine Dean of Libraries.

In this issue:

Interlibrary Loans still possible with ILLiad

You may have heard about a disruption to Interlibrary Loan. Due to changes with our statewide delivery system, people are currently unable to make requests for items at other Maine and UMaine libraries from our online catalog. We’re hopeful that the request function in our catalog and delivery will be turned back on soon.

In the meantime, UMaine faculty, staff, and students can still use their ILLiad accounts to request materials not held in our collection. Items will be sent to Fogler Library for in-person pick-up.

Remember that you can also use ILLiad to request digital items like online articles and book chapters that you can download from your ILLiad account.

If you have any questions please reach out to Lindsay Decker <lindsay.decker@maine.edu> or the ILL office 207.581.1671.

New from Special Collections and Projects

The Special Collections and Projects Department in Fogler Library has added a new collection to the online archival content management tool ArchivesSpace

In 1945, Seaman 1st Class Donald V. Brown of Fairfield, Maine married Christine Bishop. Three days later he was deployed. As an engineer with the Pacific Fleet Radio Unit, Brown was first stationed in San Francisco, and then Guam. His nearly daily letters to his wife are full of declarations of love but also describe his daily routines and other activities, including field trips with friends, USO shows, and tennis matches. It seems that most of Brown’s work with the radio unit was conducted overnight, leaving ample free time during the day.
