Tonight! Hope in a Time of Climate Change

Since the end of the most recent ice age, 11,000 years ago, human ingenuity and adaptability have led to enormous changes in the way we live. The rapid global expansion of human population and industrialization in the past six decades has led to alarming changes to Earth’s climate, among other things. Now we find ourselves facing serious challenges to present and future generations — challenges that seem overwhelming at times. Please help us explore several reasons for optimism and hope.

Tomorrow night! From Radical Hospitality to Radical Accountability: Higher Education’s Role in Newcomer Integration

Join this conversation with Professor Diya Abdo and Orlina Boteva, director of International Programs at UMaine, to learn about the ways in which universities in Maine (and across the nation) are currently supporting refugees and im/migrants and why this is an important commitment from a community engagement perspective, a student-centered perspective, and an institutional accountability/responsibility perspective.

Attend in person in the Salon, Fogler Library, or click here to participate in this event via Zoom.

Digital Object Identifiers minting service now available

The Open Scholarship unit of Fogler Library now offers a service for minting Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for UMaine System publications, research, and shared objects. A Digital Object Identifier is a unique and persistent identifier and URL for a publication/object. It serves as an enduring path to the object’s location online despite changes to hosting over time. DOIs offer many benefits to your work, providing permanent and stable access to your material. This greatly enhances discoverability, making it easy to accurately cite your work. That, in turns, improves tracking and metrics, allowing automated systems to easily track citations of your work. For more information about DOIs, contact Open Scholarship Librarian Casey Koons and attend the upcoming hybrid Tea with the Dean on March 27 at 3 p.m., where Open Scholarship services will be featured.

Featured Resource: Taylor & Francis Online Journals

Taylor & Francis Online Journals provides University of Maine System access to approximately 2,500 searchable full-text journals. Broad in scope, the collection covers the social sciences and humanities, science and technology, and medicine. Individual journal titles are listed and linked within URSUS. A Listen function that uses ReadSpeaker webreader may be used to listen to audio versions of articles by first creating a personal account while connected through library authentication, then going to the article from the open web (not via this or other authenticated links), logging on with your account, and right-clicking the Listen play icon to open the audio file in a new browser tab.
