Fogler Library Halloweekend Event

On October 30, Fogler Library will be hosting Jennifer Pictou, co-author of “Haunted Bar Harbor.” Join us from 6–7 p.m. in the Fogler Library Salon to hear about one of the most haunted seaport towns in Maine. There will be a reading as well as discussion about ghost stories, writing, and supernatural Maine legends. Refreshments will be provided. Note that space is limited and registration is encouraged. You may register here. If you would like to have the author sign a copy of “Haunted Bar Harbor,” some copies will be available at the campus bookstore prior to the event.

Guide to Open Access Publishing

Fogler Library has a small number of publisher licensing agreements that enable UMaine faculty, staff, and students to publish their research as open access (OA) journal articles, without the need to pay an article processing charge (APC). The publishers listed on the page do not charge the library any additional fees for OA publishing on top of the library’s existing subscription cost. Two additional publishers have been added for 2024-2026: Company of Biologists, and Royal Society of Chemistry.

News from Special Collections and Projects: Annual Maine Archives & Museums Conference

On Friday, Oct. 3, archivists Matthew Revitt and Herb Dittersdorf attended the annual Maine Archives & Museums Conference “Rooted in Place: Exploring the Power of Local History in Community Identity,” hosted by our UMS colleagues at the University of Farmington. The plenary speaker for the conference was UMaine alumna Maulian Bryant (Class of 2006).

UMaine was well represented at the conference with Professor Liam Riordan and students from the History Department attending. In addition to attending the conference both Lincoln Tiner and Finnegan Christian presented posters based on their research in Special Collections and Projects.
