UMaine Dining will be hosting a grand opening event for the Oakes Room at Fogler Library on Friday, March 8th, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, featuring the fully autonomous Costa Coffee machines (the first in Maine) and the VICKI vending machine. The Costa Coffee machines will enhance your coffee experience with innovative features and the VICKI machine will provide access to healthy Simply To Go food options, ensuring that you have convenient and nutritious dining choices. UMaine Dining will be giving out complimentary scones during the event, freshly baked and prepared by their talented culinary team. UMaine Dining’s Santiago Rave and Jonathan Warren will be present at the event to answer any questions you may have about the machines or dining services in general. Please join us!

Tea at the Salon with the Dean (Rescheduled)

Our hybrid Tea at the Salon with the Dean of Libraries has been rescheduled to March 18, 2024 from 12:30-1:30pm. Please join us for tea and sweets and an update on Fogler Plus happenings. The Tea will feature Business and Economics Librarian John Hutchinson, who serves as Representative of Maine’s only Patent and Trademark Resource Center, based in Fogler Library. Hutchinson will discuss PTRC services and promote his upcoming patent searching workshops to be held as part of Maine Impact Week in April 2024.

New Archival Finding Aid: Wilde Stein

An archival finding aid for the records of the student organization Wilde Stein held by Fogler Library has recently been added to the online archival content management tool ArchivesSpace. The records contain details of Wilde Stein’s founding in 1973, its landmark “Maine Gay Symposium”, various programs including for Pride and Coming Out Week, and reference material on LGBTQ social justice issues.

Passamaquody-Maliseet Dictionary Editors Awarded Canadian M.S.W.

The University of Maine Press is delighted to announce that Robert Leavitt, David Francis, and Margaret Apt, lead editors of the Passamaquody-Maliseet Dictionary have received the M.S.W. (Meritorious Service Decoration), awarded by the Canadian government. (David Francis’s award is being given posthumously.) In the letter announcing the award, the Governor General of Canada said that this honor “is a testament to your outstanding achievement and service to the nation.” The Governor General also stated that “this honour [is] one of the highest in the country.” The achievement that the Governor General is referencing is the Passamaquody-Maliseet Dictionary, published in 2008 by the University of Maine Press. The press is now preparing an enlarged and augmented second edition of the dictionary, scheduled for publication later this year.
