Salon Series: Navigating the Political Landscape: Mental Health, Social Media, and Constructive Dialogue
Don’t miss the first event in Fogler Library’s exciting new Salon Series, which kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 8 from 6—7:30 p.m.
In our hyper-connected world, where politics pervade life and social media is both a platform for discourse and a battleground for ideologies, maintaining mental well-being can be a challenge.
Join us for a discussion around the intricate relationship between mental health, social media, and politics. In this Salon, we will explore ways in which social media shapes our political views and, subsequently, impacts our mental wellness. The speakers will share insights in the way groupthink, misinformation, and logical fallacies influence our thoughts and emotional states.
Learn how to “disagree without being disagreeable” by spotting misinformation, groupthink, and logical fallacies. Discover the importance of mindful media consumption and how to create a balance between staying informed and your mental well-being.

New from Special Collections and Projects: University of Maine College of Sciences
The Special Collections and Projects Department in Fogler Library has added new records to the online archival content management tool ArchivesSpace.
Records related to the operations of the former University of Maine College of Sciences are now available to researchers. The records include: planning material related to College of Sciences reunions and receptions; material from College of Sciences chair and faculty retreats and meetings; copies of various College of Sciences and individual departmental publications and annual reports; data related to student enrollment, majors, retention and grades; and budget information. The College of Sciences was officially established on July 1, 1989 under the leadership of Dean Dagmar Cronn. In the College of Sciences were the departments of Chemistry, Geological Sciences, Physics and Astronomy, Plant Biology and Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Biology, Zoology, Mathematics, Oceanography, and Computer Science.
Dean Conn departed the College of Sciences in June 1997 and on July 1, 1997 the College closed with the individual department moving to the new, combined colleges, in particular the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture (recently renamed the College of Earth, Life, and Health Sciences).
