Fogler Foundations for Future Black Bears

Fogler Foundations for Future Black Bears

Fogler Foundations for Future Black Bears (Fogler Foundations) is a program designed to provide early research instruction for local high school students working on a research project or capstone paper. Librarians can provide on-campus instruction about academic resources, search strategies, and Special Collections.

Some pertinent details about Fogler Foundations:

  • All visits are in person at Fogler Library and require the presence of a teacher or school librarian with the visiting class.
  • Visits are scheduled for the second half of each semester (November and December for fall; April and May in spring).
  • This program is offered to six local schools–Bangor, Orono, Old Town, John Bapst, Brewer, and Hampden.
  • The program is able to accommodate smaller class sizes (usually no more than 20).
  • Visits are scheduled for anywhere between 1-3 hours depending on class needs.
  • Fogler covers the bus transportation costs for the program, as well as providing a catered box lunch to those who stay through mealtime.

This initiative, which shows potential future Black Bears the opportunities that await them, is made possible by the University of Maine Library Special Initiatives Fund, a generous gift from retired Dean of Cultural Affairs & Libraries at the University of Maine Elaine Albright (1983-2003).  To continue to fund Fogler Foundations and other library initiatives, please visit the University of Maine Foundation website for Fogler Library.
