Food, Drink, and Tobacco Policy

Fogler Library is dedicated to providing a welcoming study and research environment. This policy was established to balance the needs of library patrons with protecting the building and its collections.

Covered beverage containers are permitted in the Library except for Special Collections. Preferred containers include screw/pull-top bottles and spill-proof travel mugs but covered paper and styrofoam cups are permitted. Travel mugs are a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to paper and styrofoam cups.

Open beverage containers are permitted only in the Oakes Room and the Thomas Lynch Room. When in doubt, ask about the acceptability of a container. You may leave this type of container at entrance check-out desks.

Food is permitted only in the Oakes and Thomas Lynch Rooms. You may leave food at entrance check-out desks.

University of Maine is a tobacco-free campus. Tobacco use includes the possession of any lighted tobacco products, or the use of any type of smokeless tobacco. This includes the use of electronic cigarettes.

Thank you for helping to protect Fogler Library and its collections.
