1. ASM Handbooks Online and Met Opera On Demand: Student Access Now Available

ASM Handbooks Online features the complete content of thirty ASM Handbook volumes on ferrous and non-ferrous metals and materials technologies. The database may be accessed from the URSUS record.

Met Opera On Demand: Student Access provides video and audio for selected Metropolitan Opera performances, including over 100 previously broadcasted Live in HD global cinema transmissions; over 75 classic telecasts from 1977-2003 that originally aired on public television; and more than 450 historic radio broadcasts dating back to 1935. The database may be accessed from the Indexes page.

2. ScholComm 2018

Organized by Fogler Library, ScholComm 2018 is a one-day conference dedicated to key topics in scholarly communication. Join us for the following informative and engaging workshops:

3. Framework for Assessing Information Literacy Across the Disciplines
Time & Date: 2:00pm – 4:00pm, January 16, 2018
Location: University Club in Fogler Library

Once again, Fogler Library is partnering with the Office of Assessment to offer an Information Literacy Assessment workshop for instructors at UMaine. Refreshments will be provided.

This session will be facilitated by Nancy Lewis, Head of the Reference & Information Literacy Department at Fogler Library, and librarian instructors of Fogler Library’s information literacy courses.

Description of session: Subject librarians from Fogler Library’s Information Literacy team will facilitate a conversation focused on developing both a shared vocabulary and appropriate tools for assessing information literacy skills. Using the Information Literacy VALUE Rubric as a guiding document, the group will consider examples of assignments gathered from a range of disciplines. Participants will discuss ways to incorporate information literacy into existing curricula and assignments.

Who is it for? All faculty (tenured, tenure-track, lecturers, adjunct teaching faculty), and teaching assistants.

What is the intent? To identify ways to assess information literacy competencies within a range of disciplines.

This session is part of an ongoing series on writing, quantitative reasoning, and critical thinking.

4. January Grants 101 Workshop

The Grant Development Office and Fogler Library are sponsoring “Grants 101: Seeking, Analyzing, and Writing Basics.” At the workshop, you will:

  • search for grants in PIVOT
  • analyze an agency’s Request for Proposals
  • learn Grant Writing Basics
