Sewall Company Photo of Mount Katahdin

Paul’s latest favorite is this image of Mount Katahdin from the Sewall Company aerial photographs recently donated to the University of Maine and Raymond H. Fogler Library. Founded in 1880, Sewall began offering aerial photography services in 1948. Since this image of Mount Katahdin was taken that year, it was probably among the earliest aerial images captured by the company.

The donation includes over 3,000 rolls of film containing about one million aerial images. While it will take quite a while for the full collection to be available, a new section of DigitalCommons@UMaine has been created for sharing images that have been digitized, including this photo of Mt Katahdin 1948.
