Digital Commons Readership Snapshot for January 2025


DigitalCommons@UMaine, the university’s institutional repository, experienced over a half-million downloads in January 2025, more than double the average monthly downloads. Over 279,000 of these downloads took place at commercial organizations across mainland China. 


Titles of interest span the natural sciences. Also of interest was “Comparing Map Learning between Touchscreen-Based Visual and Haptic Displays: A Behavioral Evaluation with Blind and Sighted Users,” resulting from VEMI Lab’s collaboration with UNAR Labs of Portland, Maine. The Amy Blackstone article, “Gender Roles and Society,” remains a top download in the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and nine African nations. In all 8,485 institutions across 187 countries used scholarship published by UMaine researchers.

HathiTrust Digital Library


HathiTrust is a partnership of academic and research institutions, offering a collection of titles digitized from libraries around the world. The HathiTrust Digital Library database of more than 18 million volumes spans several centuries and many languages. Search options include full text and bibliographic record fields, including title, author, and date. More than 6.7 million of the contributed volumes are in the public domain and therefore may be freely viewed online, one page at a time.
