Salon event coming in May: Artificial Intelligence in Business: Disruption, Opportunity, or Both?
Artificial Intelligence is transforming the way we live and work — and business is at the center of the storm. From automation and data analysis to marketing and customer service, AI tools are evolving faster than many companies can keep up. So what does this mean for the future of business?
Is AI a powerful tool for innovation and growth? Or a disruptive force with serious risks? Or both?
Join UMaine Libraries in person or via Zoom on Monday, May 12 at 5 p.m. for a dynamic Salon Series panel discussion that will explore the many sides of AI in the business world. Learn how organizations are already integrating AI, what ethical concerns are emerging, and how small businesses and entrepreneurs can navigate this rapidly changing landscape.

| | New from Special Collections and Projects: Exhibit highlights the history of Maine Day | |
In anticipation of this year’s Spirit Week, come and learn about the history of Maine Day with Fogler Library’s newest exhibit, located in the Center Hallway on Level 1 of Fogler Library. The annual tradition of Maine Day was established on May 1, 1935 by University of Maine President Arthur A. Hauck as a replacement for the annual Sophomore-Freshman class war. The original purpose of the day was to lessen the rivalry between the classes by directing their energies into planting trees, building sidewalks, painting fences, and generally improving the campus.
The exhibit features photographs and items related to some of the varied past traditions associated with Maine Day including the campus mayoralty campaign; student-faculty skit; interfraternity sing; country fair; and dance marathon.

In the spirit of Maine Day, Fogler Library invites you to garden with us as we tidy
up the gardens around Fogler and plant some annuals. We’ll be out near the East Entrance of the library (across from the Memorial Union) from 8–11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30.
Tools will be provided by Facilities Management, so no need to bring your own. Please email Rosie Seaber <rosie.seaber@maine.edu> with any questions.

Digital Object Identifiers minting service now available
Fogler Library now offers a service for minting Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for UMaine System publications, research, and shared objects. This service is available to any current student, staff, or faculty member from any University of Maine System campus. A Digital Object Identifier is a unique and persistent identifier and URL for a publication/object. It serves as an enduring path to the object’s location online despite changes to hosting over time. DOIs offer many benefits to your work, providing permanent and stable access to your material. This enhances discoverability, making it easy for others to accurately cite your work. That, in turn, improves tracking and metrics, allowing automated systems to easily track citations of your work. For more information about DOIs, click the link below or contact Open Scholarship Librarian Casey Koons.
