1. Including Information Literacy Curriculum in Your Courses
As you prepare your classes, you may want to include information literacy skill building into your curriculum, as appropriate for your discipline. Fogler Reference Librarians are able to assist with identifying concepts and designing assignments, as well as provide instruction in this area. Contact your subject librarian if you would like to discuss this.

2. January Grants 101 Workshop
Date & Time: Thursday, January 17, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

The Office of Research Development and Fogler Library are sponsoring “Grants 101: Seeking, Analyzing, and Writing Basics.”

At the workshop, participants will:

  • search for grants in PIVOT
  • analyze an agency’s Request for Proposals
  • learn grant writing basics

 RSVP here; space is limited.

3. ILL Patron Password Change
ILLiad servers were upgraded on Tuesday, Jan 8th. The software will require you to change your password the first time you log in after the upgrade was completed. A dialog box will assist you in changing your password. If you have any questions please contact the ILL office at library.ill@maine.edu.

4. Citation Manager Workshops
Note to RefWorks users: RefWorks will be phased out by the end of the academic year. These workshops may help you choose a new citation manager and learn how to import your RefWorks record to a new platform.

Large research projects, especially theses and dissertations, involve extensive use of a variety of publications. It’s difficult to locate and organize these materials and their citations and to represent these references in the required format. Citation managers can be a big help on this side of the research process.

This semester, Fogler Library will host both general citation management workshops and workshops focused on specific citation managers. If you plan to attend the general workshops and/or specific citation manager workshops, please RSVP online. The dates and times are:

  • Citation Manager Workshop, Wednesday 1/30, 4-6pm
  • Citation Manager Workshop, Tuesday 2/5, 6-8pm
  • Zotero Workshop, Tuesday 2/19, 4-6pm
  • Mendeley Workshop, Monday 2/25, 4-6pm
  • EndNote Basic Workshop, Wednesday 2/27, 4-6pm

5. Extra Credit Opportunity for Students: Fake News Workshop
Fogler Library is seeking faculty willing to offer their students extra credit for attending a fake news workshop on Monday, March 25, from 4:45 pm – 6:00 pm.

The workshop will be led by Judith Rosenbaum, Assistant Professor in Communication and Journalism, and Jen Bonnet, Social Sciences & Humanities Librarian, who will engage students in an interactive workshop where they’ll unpack the many meanings of “fake news” and learn how to critically evaluate information they find online.

Please contact Jen Bonnet (jenbonnet@maine.edu) by Friday, February 8th, if you are interested in offering extra credit for this workshop.
