Binding: Processing Newly Bound Books and Journals

Purpose: To outline the steps required to prepare books and journals that have been received back from the bindery for entry into the library stacks.

Bound Books

Overview
When books are returned from the bindery they must be tattle stripped and book plated just as new books are. Call number labels are not needed, as the call number and title are stamped on the outside of the book.  Overall procedure is as follows:

  1. Locate the item record in URSUS
  2. Check that the title and call number match
  3. Change Status from “b” (bindery) to “-“ (available)
  4. Add barcode
  5. Insert tattle strip
  6. Affix book plate
