Resources and Collections
The primary purpose of the Raymond H. Fogler Library collections is to support University of Maine students, staff, and faculty in their curriculum and research. The collections include monographs, journals, databases, maps, and media for undergraduate, graduate, and faculty work. Specialized collections feature Maine-related materials, University archives, a notable Canadiana collection, and a growing Digital Commons@UMaine repository of unique digital resources.


Collections
Fogler Library’s collections include a wide range of materials to support academic research and coursework, including books, journals, government documents, microforms, and maps. These resources span many disciplines and formats to meet the diverse needs of students and faculty.
Special Collections & Projects
Special Collections houses rare books, manuscripts, and archival materials with a focus on Maine history, politics, and culture. Notable holdings include the Sewall Aerial Photographic Collection and extensive documentation of Maine’s natural resources and industries.


Research & Instruction
The Research & Instruction team supports students and faculty through research consultations, instruction sessions, and workshops. They help users navigate databases, develop search strategies, and evaluate sources for academic work.
Databases
Fogler Library provides access to hundreds of databases that index scholarly articles, conference proceedings, dissertations, news sources, and more. These tools support in-depth research across disciplines.


Digital Commons
Digital Commons at the University of Maine is an open-access institutional repository managed by Raymond H. Fogler Library. It hosts a wide range of scholarly and creative works, including theses, publications, and campus materials. The platform preserves and shares UMaine’s intellectual output, enhancing its visibility and long-term accessibility.
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
The University of Maine’s Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) collection is a digital archive of graduate student research hosted by Raymond H. Fogler Library’s Digital Commons platform. It offers free, open-access to the full text of UMaine theses and dissertations, supporting global discoverability and long-term preservation of scholarly work.


Media
Media resources include DVDs, streaming video, audio recordings, and other multimedia formats to support learning and instruction. These materials can be searched via the library catalog or accessed online.
Books
The library offers a vast collection of print and electronic books covering a broad array of subjects. Books are available for checkout and can be located using the online catalog.


Journals
Journals are available in both print and digital formats, providing access to peer-reviewed research, reviews, and commentary across academic fields. Most journal access is available through the library’s website.
Reserves
Course reserves provide short-term access to textbooks, articles, and media that instructors have designated as required for their classes. These materials are often available for limited checkout times to ensure access for all students.
