In the lower left hand corner of this photograph
may be one
of the "haggard faces" Cohen referred to
in his description
of the neighborhood.
Cohen concluded his introduction to "Hancock Street" by
writing, "All of that part of my past is gone now.
Sammy's Barber Shop, Caruso's Spaghetti House, Gotlieb's
Meat Market, the bars with their garish lights --all have
been swept away in the name of urban renewal.
Hancock Street is now only a memory for me, an important one
that I hope will not fade as the years accumulate."
Of Sons and Seasons is available through many
libraries including Fogler Library.
