Records in this subseries document attempts made by Senator Cohen
and other members of the U.S. Congress to decrease New England's
dependency on foreign oil by promoting the use of other sources of
energy and by encouraging energy conservation and efficiency.
Related issues concern the proposed reorganization of the Department
of Energy in the early 1980s, problems posed by nuclear waste,
energy assistance programs, and a long-standing controversy over the
proposed Dickey-Lincoln power plant in northern Maine. The records
are divided into four subdivisions based on the work of the
legislative assistants who created them:
